House on Straight
Overcoming Addiction...
Thursdays at 8pm at the church office.
As Saul was on his way to do violence to those who belonged to the Church in Damascus, the Spirit of Christ met him on the way and forever changed his life. From this encounter, Jesus told Saul to go to house of Judas on Straight Street. (Acts 9:11) At this house Saul met a man named Ananias, a follower of Christ. Ananias knew who Saul was and he knew what Saul had come to Damascus to do. Yet in spite of this knowledge he comes to Saul, prays for him, and even goes as far as to call him brother. Despite Saul's past, his violence and persecution, Ananias is inspired by Christ to accept him without condition. It was at this house that Saul not only experienced a physical healing, but Gods unconditional love made real through Ananias. Saul was safe in this house; safe to be who he was before God and others despite the sins of his past. It was in this place where forgiveness and a new life were realized, and this is what God is calling us to build here at CenterPoint for those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.
The House on Straight is a place where we can come before God and be real with our addiction, sin, and pain because of the Gospel. Covered by the blood of Jesus we can handle the things that we are ashamed of and the things that hurt us instead of running and hiding in shame. The Gospel of Jesus Christ allows us to safely hold our shortcomings in order that we may give them to God to be redeemed. Building the same safe place that Saul had at The House on Straight is what this ministry is all about.
